Advanced Positioning, Flow, and Sentiment Analysis in Commodity Markets: Bridging Fundamental and Technical Analysis

Author(s): Mark J. S. Keenan

Series: Wiley Trading Advantage

Publisher: Wiley, Year: 2020

Description:
In recent years, positioning has become a key driver of commodity prices and a principal factor in shaping sentiment and behavior.Advanced Positioning, Flow and Sentiment Analysis in Commodity Marketsdefines and establishes Positioning Analysis as an area of research that provides a powerful framework to better understand price dynamics, risk, sentiment and behavior in commodity markets. Based on standard positioning data and bridging aspects of fundamental and technical analysis, the approach builds on how certain types of positioning patterns, in the context of changes in variables like price, curve structure, fundamentals such as inventory, seasonal factors, exchange rates, changes in the broader macroeconomic environment and the levels of risk and uncertainty in the market, can be used to develop models, indicators and analyses. These lead to the generation of robust trading signals, that can be either used directly, or integrated into a variety of different trading, investment and risk management programs to enhance performance.

This is a revision ofPositioning Analysis in Commodity Markets, which the author self-published and was released on Amazon earlier this year (January 2018), and it will include new chapters and significant updates to many of the previous chapters from the first book. The models, indicators and studies in the first book, which have been developed for over 20 years through the author's research work, were based on data and conclusions up until the end of 2016 - the new book will include data up until the end of 2018. There will also be numerous enhancements and improvements to many of the previous models and the introduction of new and advanced models and methodologies. A key difference with this new version will be that all models, analysis, indicators and studies will be available online and updated continuously going forward, making the companion website a key feature of the book. All graphics in the book will be further improved and generated by Tableau (which will drive the online platform / website).
